Daemon: Obscura is an interplay of individual experience, digital space and the unseen subject’s power game. An autobiographical illustration style encapsulates my experiences in chronological screen-like domains. Placing my life, dreams and desire into a machine.
Execution of each work was influenced by the perspective altering monochromatic drawings and paintings of Mark Tansey; contemporary existential figurative pieces by Henrick Uladin; and the imaginative realism of Brom’s dark, powerful game illustrations. My motivation for layering pastel drawings beneath game inspired, digitally designed fabricated components, is to echo the power imbalance and relationship dynamics felt with current technologies and platforms.
I created these artworks with the intention of evoking a connection with the viewer as a mother, Navy veteran and artist with a diverse, technical background. These game-like illustrations from my life, layered with quotes from relationships of the past, serve to scaffold my technological concerns as they relate to everyone. What lies beyond the veil of the digital present, and should you trust the machine with all that you are?
